UB ERI Hosts Staff Retreat
The University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB ERI) held a two-day staff retreat at the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve from September 2 – 3, 2016. Staff from the Belmopan office and the Calabash Caye Field Station came together on day one at the Hidden Valley Inn to participate in a series of team building activities facilitated by UB Counsellor, Ms. Anna Sambula. The fun-filled activities allowed staff to become familiar with each other’s role and to learn the importance of team work.
UB ERI Administrative Director, Dr. Elma Kay, also facilitated a participatory exercise which allowed staff to contribute to the broadening of the institute’s SWOT analysis. The input from staff will be critical in establishing a long-term financial sustainability plan for the Institute. The day culminated with the mounting of tents for camping on the grounds of Bull Run Overseas Ltd.
Day two was nothing short of an adventure as UB ERI staff explored a few sites in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve including Lake Lolly Folly and Butterfly Falls. This also provided an opportunity for staff to learn a great deal about the history of the reserve.
It is the hope that the retreat will foster better communication and working relationships among staff as well as a renewed effort towards fulfilling the Institute’s mission.
