The institute is pleased to announce the hiring of four students currently studying at the University of Belize as student assistants. These students will work part–time and will be instrumental in supporting our work. Two database/research assistants were hired: Tanya Barona who is completing a Bachelor's in Natural Resources Management and Jané Salazar who is completing a Bachelor’s in Biology. There is also a publication assistant, Raven Clarke who is completing an Associate's in Marine Science and a research database assistant, Monique Woodye completing an Associate's in Natural Resources Management.

The students were hired on October 25th, 2010 and will be working with the institute for the remainder of the Academic Year until August 2011. The database/research assistants will spend a lot of time in the Turneffe Atoll doing research and monitoring. The publications assistant will be responsible for producing brochures, quarterly newsletters and other printed material for us and updating our website. The research database assistant will be responsible for updating the online database with published research done in Belize. We are happy to have these ladies with us and look forward to the excellent contributions they will make to the Institute and to our role in helping them to build their research capacity and work experience.
