We Are Hiring a Researcher for UB-ERI’s Sustainable Landscapes Team

The University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB-ERI) invites motivated and mission-driven early-career conservation professionals to apply for the position of Researcher within the Sustainable Landscapes Program (SLP). This role supports applied biodiversity research, landscape management, and community-engaged climate resilience initiatives across Belize’s terrestrial ecosystems.


UB-ERI’s Sustainable Landscapes Program leads nationally relevant research on biodiversity monitoring, forest and wildlife management, human–nature interactions, and climate adaptation across protected areas and surrounding communities. Working closely with government partners, NGOs, and international collaborators, SLP combines science, policy, and on-the-ground engagement to strengthen evidence-based conservation in Belize.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Research

1.1 Conducts and coordinates research activities under the various research work programs and projects under SLP

1.2 Conducts literature reviews, data collation/data entry, and data analysis for projects and helps

maintain any databases associated with these;

1.3 Assist with engaging community members and partner organizations, and coordinate their

collaboration in project activities;

1.4 Assists with logistics and conducting of fieldwork related to work programs and projects under SLP;

1.5 Promotes the dissemination of ERI research outputs in publications, conferences and symposia;


2. Planning

2.1 Assists in development of special programs and projects in furtherance of the objectives of the

SLP program with a focus on, but not limited to: biodiversity research and monitoring, landscape management, community engagement in climate adaptation and/or disaster risk management;

2.2 Assists in development of relevant work plans and budgets for programs and projects with the above

focus and those in 1.1;


3. Administration

3.1 Assists in the preparation of technical progress reports on projects and programs of the SLP;

3.2 Is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of volunteers working on activities in 1.1.


4. Other

4.1 Performs other duties related to the role of a Researcher as may be assigned from time to time by the

SLP Science Director or his/her designate

4.2 Collaborate with UB-ERI staff on implementation of ERI activities/events

4.3 Represents the ERI in a professional manner during fieldwork, meetings/conferences and all activities related to the position


Position Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science)

2. Experience in fieldwork and biodiversity research protocols

3. Experience with data management, analysis and technical writing

4. Diverse communication skills
